MimiG Glass Art

About MimiG
Originally from New York City where I grew up exposed to the arts. museums, the symphony and opera, Broadway (and off-Broadway), as well as the rich and diverse architecture all around me, were part of my life from a young age. I knew quite early I wanted to be some kind of artist, preferably one that designed and built things with my hands, which is probably why I gravitated toward the “craftier” side of art. I received a BA Degree in Fine Arts (emphasis on sculpture and jewelry design) from SUNY Albany, NY in 1971.
I started working with glass in 1978 and found it to be the ideal medium for me, as it incorporated the three-dimensional aspect of sculpture with the detail and glitter of jewelry-making, and I have made it the focus of my art ever since. I was enchanted by glass, watching how different light coming through the glass gave such different effects…the glass is my paint.
Besides the thousands of types of glass, I love to enhance many pieces with metal accents and embellishments and other media such as geodes, crystals, stones, shells.
Design inspiration is everywhere (nature, real life, photos, imagination) and can run the gamut from Victorian style to modern abstract, making each work a different and fascinating experience for the artist, as well as the viewer. Equally exciting is working with clients to create unique individual and personal glass pieces designed and made especially for them.
About MimiG
Custom Art
There is never a shortage of ideas for stained glass, but it’s not always about my ideas… sometimes it’s about your ideas. Custom work is available if you don’t see something already made but you love the way a picture in glass comes to life. Maybe you have your own memory or idea and want it custom designed into a stained glass panel. A photo from a trip, a momento or collectible, a favorite memory - your idea comes alive when expressed in glass.
The Mangrove Tree (made a special birthday gift of a treasured memory) all started with a photo. Merrily We Roll Along (was made as a gift from a woman to her favorite aunt and uncle who sold their home to travel the country in their RV (yes - it matches the make and model) and now hangs in that RV’s kitchen window. I love creating art that gives others a joyful feeling when they look at it. Almost anything can be created or represented with that special light and sparkle of glass into a work personal for only you.
